Oh Show

Oh Supernatural, you make me so happy and so angry All. At. The. Same. Time. STOP IT! Play nice. Be good. I love you. Stop hurting me. Thoughts on last night's episode

Many thngs that I loved:
  • the opening montage was absolutely beautiful, perfect juxtaposition of scenes and events, wonderful song, did a great job showing us where Dean is now compared to where he'd been, made me so happy
  • Lisa and Ben; I always liked Lisa just fine, but last night she really rocked. I thought she made Dean as happy as possible, she wasn't a doormat, she seemed to really *get* Dean and the whole nightmare of his life, she had normal grownup reactions, yay for Lisa. We didn't see that much of Ben, but he was used well in the story
  • Dean locking up the house/checking the perimeter
  • the story juxtaposition of the djinn storyline in WIAWSNB with the djinn family storyline here, Dean's longing for the "normal" life in that story with the "normal" life he has now, very clever, tip of my hat
  • Dean's fake "I'm good", said at the end of "Swan Song" IIRC and repeaed at the beginning of this episode
Things I did NOT love:
  • The Campbells. The Campbells. The Campbells.
  • I was not an X-Files viewer, so MP doesn't mean anything special to me. But I've always liked him just fine. Liked him before as Grandpa. But last night....blech. A creepy and thoroughtly unpleasant man.
  • Who on earth in their right mind would cast CN and think he would bring in viewers? Sorry to CN fans out there. I am not one of you.
  • The Campbells were so creepy and disgusting, all I could think of was The Benders.
  • Also, Deliverance banjo music should have been playing during their scenes.
  • Why are they so snotty. Dean Winchester is a damn hero. They should be kissing his ass. Why is Sam hanging around with them? This does not make sense. I'm sure there's an explanation, but while I wait for it why must I be subjected to these inbred assholes? And isn't this a slap in the face of Mary's memory?
  • And finally, yes, I am admittedly a Dean fan. (What? You couldn't tell?) But it kind of breaks my heart that once again Dean is the one to initiate a hug. Why does no one rush to hug Dean? Why? Come here, Dean, I will hug you.
Things that were OK:
  • Sam. Something is clearly wrong with Sam. But he was locked in the cage in hell with Lucifer in his head, what do you expect? I expect we'll get our Sam back eventually. I can be patient.
  • I suspect that one reason Sam didn't get in touch with Dean for a year is that conscously or not, Sam liked being on his own. Liked having his own car to arrange, liked hunting his own. way for a change. Of course that doesn't jive with hooking up with the Squidbillies, but we'll see....
  • No Castiel. This is OK, just THIS ONE TIME. I am putting you on notice. I need to see Cas.
Oddly enough I went to bed last night thinking I liked the episode OK, but woke up this morning all kinds of cranky about it. I hope the Campbells turn out not to be Campbells but some evil pack of something. Because in a show about family, it will be just too devastating to me to have them be Sam and Dean's family.
