LibraryThing!

I know I don't update my journal as often as I'd like, but I don't want to disappear completely! Where have I been? What have I been doing?

The fall semester started last week, and for me that means teaching, teaching, and more teaching. So I've been buried in a big pile of undergraduate students. (Not nearly as exciting as it sounds, by the way.) Most faculty want me to come and speak to their classes during the first four weeks of the semester, so there's another couple weeks to go before things settle back down to normal. Or what passes for normal around here. But for right now it's all about the Wonders of the Libraries' Databases. Want to know how to find dirty stuff in PsycInfo? Want to hear my absolutely hilarious Sociological Abstracts joke? I need to somehow work John and Rodney into my presentations in some seekrit manner, if only to amuse myself. Hmmm...I'll work on that.

Since I'm in the Library State of Mind, I want to share the following neato-cool thing with y'all. It's a site where you can "catalog" your own books, share your lists with others, find people with similar reading interests, etc. You can talk books. Find other people who have read that obscure hard-core sci fi novel that you were convinced had only been read by you and you alone. Share your guilty pleasures. If you're familiar with using del.icio.us to share web bookmarks, this is a kind of similar idea to share reading interests. It's called LibraryThing; find it here: http://www.librarything.com/

Hey, there's a long weekend coming up! Who needs picnics and waterskiing? Go catalog your books; you know you want to!
