drunken librarians in relax-fit jeans
Now that I've got your attention! For those of you who don't know, I was in New Orleans last week for the American Library Association conference. It was the first major convention to go there post-Katrina. It was a very emotional experience, and I've been trying to find a way to publicly express that. But words have failed me, so I'll just pass on this article which does capture a lot of what I felt there. It's a little long, but I ask that you read all the way to the end.

The city still needs our help and they need to not be forgotten. If you see a chance to help, please do so. It's not "fixed" yet.
I don't know why that cut came out twice. Just call me Dr. Fumbles McStupid.

I had many weepy moments, but the weepiest was sitting in an auditorium in the Convention Center watching Anderson Cooper break down in his speech, not once but several times. Being back in the Convention Center obviously was very painful for him. I think for most conference attendees it was a difficult place to be, knowing that it's one of their big tickets to recovery and yet at the same time wanting to just run away and never look at it again.
